Elizabeth (Lizzy) Hewitt is a singer, teacher, and community musician from San Francisco, currently based in Somerville, Massachusetts. She completed a Master’s degree in Community Music from the University of Limerick, facilitating inclusive, creative, and collaborative music workshops for a variety of contexts. She aims to create interactive and educational music performances for children, building community through music in schools.

Lizzy discovered her passion for music while singing with the San Francisco Girls Chorus from age 7-18. As a member of the SFGC, Lizzy performed with the San Francisco Symphony and Opera, recording two GRAMMY-winning albums; Charles Ives: An American Journey (2002) and Mahler: Symphony No. 3 (2003). In 2002, she performed at the Oregon Bach festival and the Sixth World Symposium on Choral Music in Minneapolis under the direction of Helmuth Rilling. In 2003, she toured Finland, Latvia, and Estonia, where she sang at the Laulupidu Estonian Song Festival in a choir with 25,000 singers.

Lizzy moved to New York City in 2005, where she joined a jazz vocal ensemble called Uptown Vocal, of which she later became the music director. She earned her Bachelor's Degree (Spanish Language and Art History) from Barnard College of Columbia University in 2009. In 2012 she joined Ghostlight Chorus, a professional chorus with which she toured to Marktoberdorf, Germany, winning 3rd place in the International Chamber Choir Competition (2015), and sang backing vocals for the Rolling Stones in Washington, DC (2013). As a member of 3Penny Chorus and Orchestra, Lizzy performed on the television show America’s Got Talent at Radio City Music Hall in New York City (2013). During this period she also taught at the International Preschools and earned a Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education from CUNY Hunter College (2014).

Over the following four years, Lizzy continued to teach in international schools, first at the American School of Puerto Vallarta (Mexico), and then at the International School of Ulm/Neu-Ulm (Germany). In 2018 she moved to Limerick, Ireland to complete a Master’s degree in Irish Traditional Music Performance at the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance. During this course, Lizzy was mentored by traditional Irish musicians including Karan Casey, Iarla Ó Lionáird, and Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh. She was selected to represent the Irish World Academy and perform at the TradijaNova Ethnochoreology Summit in Belgrade (2018) and the Celtic Connections festival in Glasgow (2019). Lizzy was awarded the Stepping Stones Scholarship at the Irish World Academy, as well as bursaries to sing at the Inishowen International Folk & Ballad Seminar (2019), and at the Frank Harte Festival (2019). She tours with her trio, Síle, performing modern arrangements of Irish traditional songs.

Upon completion of her Irish traditional music performance degree, Lizzy enrolled in the Community Music Master’s degree at the University of Limerick to develop skills and experience in creative music facilitation. She teaches private lessons (Irish traditional singing, music lessons for children, voice lessons, and community music workshops) and has facilitated community music projects at the Limerick Educate Together Secondary School and Maria King Presentation Primary School. Lizzy enjoys travel and learning languages; she has studied Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, German, Mandarin, and Irish.

Since moving to Boston in 2020, Lizzy has enjoyed teaching music in Cambridge Public Schools. She is one of the music teachers at the Maria L. Baldwin School.
